Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is an ancient holistic therapy that focuses on the scalp, neck, shoulders and upper back.

The massage is typically performed while the client is seated, allowing for easy access to the head, neck, and shoulders. The practitioner uses pressure point massage along with gentle, flowing movements and friction techniques to alleviate tension.

This deeply relaxing massage incorporates the use of plant extracts, primarily essential oils, which have the ability to promote mental and physical benefits by stimulating the smell senses, and when absorbed through the skin.

The Holistic approach

Indian Head Massage applied with essential oils treats the person as a whole, rather than treating specific conditions in isolation. This ‘holistic’ approach is one of the main differences to conventional massage. A holistic practitioner will consider all symptoms together as a whole (whether mental, emotional, or physical).

The mind-body link

Emotional stress caused by grief, shock, abandonment, mental exhaustion or major life-changes can leave us drained and prone to illness. Stress has been linked to decreased functioning of the immune system and an increased risk of developing obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Indian Head Massage stimulates the body’s own natural healing mechanism.

What will it involve?

Your practitioner will complete a detailed consultation and medical history to identify the reasons for the treatment and your wellness improvement goals.

Following an assessment, your practitioner can provide you with a treatment plan and timescales to achieve the desired goals.

Your practitioner may carry out a postural or bio-mechanical assessment to access global muscles and their effects on the presented symptoms and conditions.

To start we personalise your treatment room by creating a space that will promote calm, relaxation and balance the nervous system.

The selected essential oil blend is applied to the areas treated, followed by pressure point massage along with gentle, flowing movements and friction massage techniques to sooth away the built-up stress and tension that is found throughout your head, neck and shoulders.

Infra-red heat therapy may also be used on the shoulders to aid a deeper relaxing experience.

Does it hurt?

Each individual’s response will vary depending on the specific massage technique applied and if any symptoms such as inflammation or tension is present. Care is taken to adjust the pressure to suit you to make it as comfortable and as relaxing as possible.

How many treatments do I need?
Your practitioner will endeavor to treat your concerns as much as possible in a single treatment. However, depending on your state of being and your improvement goals you may need a course of 3 to 5 treatments, taken every 1 to 2 weeks to achieve desired results.

How quickly will I see the results?

You will feel results immediately after a single treatment and progressively after each session during a course of treatments.

How long will the results last?
