Pre Treatment

A consultation is essential prior to taking any laser treatment.

A brief telephone consultation will enable us to assess whether you are eligible for a full consultation and a test patch.

A full consultation will include a detailed, assessment, along with a diagnosis of your hair and skin type to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you. Your concerns are discussed to establish your aims and goals, and to offer the best treatment plan to suit you.

All skin and hair types can be treated with the exception of grey/white hair as there is no melanin present. Test patches of the laser treatment are applied to the area to be treated. We request that you wait a precautionary period of time to monitor for any skin irritation. Upon satisfactory completion, treatments can proceed.

Skin Condition

The condition of your skin is important. We are unable to commence laser treatment if the area to be treated is:
Inflamed
Injured (includes burns or broken skin)
Has had significant sun/sunbed UV exposure which has resulted in sunburn
If you have recently used permanent tanning products

It is important that the skin is in its natural state and free from tanning or damage. If any of the above applies, then we would delay the laser treatment procedure for 2 weeks in order for the skin to heal and recover completely.

If in doubt, please apply sun screen protection on the tattoo using a minimum of SPF50 for 2 weeks prior to your appointment to ensure your skin is in its natural condition.

More FAQs

What will it involve?

Laser hair removal/reduction treatments are available for men and women.

Laser hair removal/reduction treatments are delivered under well-led, professional, and safe clinical conditions.

Your practitioner will complete a detailed consultation to establish skin type and the type of hair which is to be treated, and to ascertain your improvement goals. During this consultation your options will be discussed in detail before any treatment commences, all of which will determine the treatment plan most suited to you.

Before treatment, the hair and skin type will be assessed and recorded.

The treatment will commence once the area to be treated is prepared, then the laser applicator is placed on the skin where a short pulse of light is released, targeting many hair follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. The entire body can be treated in under 90 minutes!

It is mandatory for the patient and practitioner to wear protective eyewear.

The treatment is completed with the application of a soothing gel.

How does laser hair removal work?

The precisely controlled pulses of laser light energy are delivered to affected areas on the skin surface, where it is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells. The treatment affects the hair in the active growth phase only (this is also referred to as the anagen stage).

Why have the procedure?

Laser hair removal/reduction is the most effective method for achieving permanent results.

The laser treatment is also extremely effective in treating ingrown hairs and skin pigmentation caused by ingrown hairs with a significant visible improvement in the reduction of raised, red and inflamed hair follicles. The skin will appear healthier and smoother after just a few sessions.

It is known that certain medical condition and prescribed medications may cause or contribute to excessive hair growth. Laser hair removal/reduction treatments are a key tool in managing the concerns a person may be experiencing and can be essential to assist in regaining one’s confidence. Typical medical clients for laser hair removal/reduction are patients referred by their GP or suffering from: Hormonal Imbalance, PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Cushing’s Syndrome, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia or Hirsutism.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of laser treatment sessions required to successfully remove/reduce unwanted hair will vary from person to person. The hair type, skin type, hormonal implications, use of medications and the location on your body are all important contributing factors.

Only hair that is actively growing is affected during the treatment. Therefore, a series of treatments are required. Treatments are conducted every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is achieved.

In general, clients typically require ten laser treatment sessions to achieve the optimal hair removal/reduction results. There is simply no comparison to a lifetime of shaving or waxing commitments.

The density of the hair reduces following each treatment session and clients often experience noticeable reduction of their hair following just three or four treatment sessions.

How quickly will I begin to see results?

During a laser treatment procedure, the hair follicles blood supply is constricted. In the following sessions it becomes significantly difficult for the hair follicle to produce a hair, thus reducing the density and volume of the unwanted hair.

The hair follicles are damaged by the heat of the laser however the hairs remain in the follicles. The treated dead hairs shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

Clients often experience positive and noticeable reduction of their hair following just three or four treatment sessions. After each treatment the unwanted hair will continue to reduce until the optimal result is achieved.

How long will the results last?

Commencing a course of treatments our laser hair removal treatments are designed to permanently remove unwanted hair; however, this depends on many factors such as; medications and hormone influences.

Does it hurt?

Proven laser technology and a well-developed treatment procedure to help minimise the discomfort clients experience during the treatment. Our experienced practitioners ensure clients can effectively manage any discomfort.

Whilst perceptions vary from person to person and area of the body being treated, many clients comment that the procedure is far less uncomfortable than they had expected, that it is very manageable.

What are the side effects?

Immediately post treatment the area may feel sensitive which lasts generally 24 to 48 hours.

Although the vast majority of clients should not encounter any significant or lasting side-effects, laser treatments, in some rare instances, can lead to side-effects such as irritation or pigmentation.

How can you minimise such risks?

It is important that you are treated by a professional laser hair removal/reduction provider, who uses a proven and well-maintained laser system and follows a clinically tested treatment procedure.

By carefully following our post-treatment advice and by spacing your appointments correctly, we can minimise the risks associated with the treatment.

The practitioner will carry out Patch Testing to help confirm your suitability for the treatment and to evaluate how you will respond before any treatment begins.

After Care

Depending on the intensity of the laser hair removal/reduction treatment, inflammation and swelling may appear in the areas of the skin treated, which can feel sensitive.

It is very important to follow the instructions provided by your practitioner:

Treat the skin as a hyper-sensitive skin.
Only use the products advised by your practitioner.
Keep the area dry.
Avoid over heating the area treated.

Do not have any heat treatments such as sauna or steam.
Do not swim or exercise until the skin appears completely calm.
Do not exposure the area treated to the sun. This treatment can bring the risk of the skin developing hyper-pigmentation if exposed to UV light.
Use an SPF 50 daily.
