Stress incontinence is a common bladder condition that affects millions of adults worldwide.
The most common symptom of stress incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine during physical activity. This can occur during activities such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or lifting heavy objects. Other symptoms can include a frequent and urgent need to urinate, an inability to control the flow of urine, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
Stress incontinence is caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support the bladder and help to keep it in place. When these muscles become weakened, the bladder can shift and leak urine during physical activities.
The Importance Of Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that stretch from the pubic bone at the front to the coccyx at the back, and from one sitting bone (ischial tuberosity) to the other, very much like a hammock.
Strong pelvic floor muscles act to support and hold organs, such as the bladder, bowel, and womb in a female. When strong they also prevent leaking urine and faeces. The pelvic floor muscles also support the sexual sensation and function.
A female’s pelvic floor muscles support her bladder, bowel, and uterus (womb). The openings from these organs, the urethra from the bladder, the vagina from the uterus, and the rectum from the bowel, pass through the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles wrap firmly around these passages to help keep them closed.
A male’s pelvic floor muscles support his bladder and bowel. The openings from these organs, the urethra from the bladder and the rectum from the bowel, pass through the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles wrap firmly around these passages to help keep them closed.
Pelvic floor muscles can become weakened due to:
- Not keeping the muscles active
- Birth of a child
- Being overweight
- Persistent heavy lifting
- High impact exercise
- Persistent & long-term coughing
- Surgery specific to bladder or bowel issues
This PowerformV Pelvic Floor Stimulation uses HFEM technology induces 15,000 pulses in a 30-minute session, which is not achievable voluntarily. To re-educate the pelvic floor muscles, 300-500 contractions are need to develop a new motor pattern, whereas 3000 – 5000 contractions are needed to erase and correct poor motor pattern.
The intense muscle contractions stimulate muscle hypertrophy, creating new protein strands and muscle fibres. In this way the muscle tissue is re-educated and adapts, resulting in increased muscle density, volume, and strength.
HIFEM also triggers the body’s natural production of new muscle fibres and proteins, which further strengthens and tones the pelvic floor and improves the neuromuscular links between the brain and the bladder, significantly aiding the symptoms of urge incontinence.
Some benefits of HIFEM Treatment:
- Delivers 15,000 pulses in 30 minutes
- Intense pelvic floor muscle contraction
- Lifts pelvic floor muscles
- Tightens on pelvic floor muscles
- Performed while fully clothed
- A relaxing seated treatment
- Suitable for women & men over 18 years
- Safe & controlled
- No risk associated with surgery
- No downtime
What will it involve?
Your practitioner will complete a detailed consultation to establish your personal improvement goals, which will determine the optimum treatment to suit you.
The treatment is performed while you are fully clothed and is suitable for women and men of any age over 18 years. For the HIFEM to pass through the clothing, we advise to wear clothing that is comfortable and of a lighter fabric. Denim, or a similar density fabric is too thick for the HIFEM to pass through.
First you will be asked to empty your bladder, then your practitioner will guide you to be seated correctly on the 3D Powerform V chair with the legs slightly apart and perpendicularly (90°) flexed, so that HIFEM energy can be felt in the central area of the Pelvic Floor Muscle group.
During the 30 minute program there are three sequences of the HIFEM energy. Each targets the pelvic floor muscle directly to trigger intense pelvic floor muscle contraction. This concentric (circular –shares the same centre) contraction will have a lifting and tightening effect on all of the pelvic floor muscles.
The depth of the electromagnetic field is seven to ten centimeters, which will stimulate the pelvic floor muscles within range but will not affect the internal organs. HIFEM will only affect the skeletal muscles. Smooth muscles such as internal organs will not be stimulated.
It does not require neuromuscular control, as the muscle can contract far more by utilising the 3D Powerform V technology than it would if you were to try consciously to contract. Thus, it creates highly effective results that could not be achieved by using manual kegel exercise alone.

Why have the procedure?
Achieves excellent results in re-educating and toning pelvic floor muscle, suitable for men and women’s wellbeing at any age over 18 years.
- Tighten weak pelvic floor muscles
- Repair loose pelvic floor muscles
- Prevent weak pelvic floor muscles
- Prevent leaking urine
- Prevent leaking faeces
- Improve continence control
- Improve sexual sensation
- An ideal Post Natal treatment
- Boost your confidence
Does it hurt?
No discomfort is felt during the HIFEM 30 minute treatment. You will experience a tingling sensation from the current where the sensor pads are placed, along with a slight lift of the muscles.
Suitable for women and men of any age, the 30 minute treatment is performed while the client is fully clothed in a completely non-invasive and pain free manner
How many treatments do I need?
A course of 6–8 treatments is generally recommended to see optimum results. A course taken 2 to 3 times weekly is strongly advised to provide repair and longevity of the pelvic floor muscle tone. Some clients may experience highly effective results from as soon as the first treatment using HIFEM technology.
How quickly will I see the results?
You may experience some results immediately after a single treatment. Generally, noticeable results are more evident after approximately 4 sessions, and progressively after each session during a course of treatments.
How long will the results last?
Like an exercise class a single session can last up to a week. However, taking a course of 6 to 8 treatments taken 2 to 3 times weekly will provide greater longevity to the repair of the pelvic floor muscles. A single treatment taken monthly for the next 3 months is recommended to sustain results. A second course can be taken 6 months after the previous treatment if required.
