Spring Skin Care Tips From Marylebone Skin Expert

Finally, we are saying goodbye to the dreary winter months and welcoming the fresh energy of spring. Lighter mornings, longer days and the occasional burst of sunshine make everything feel a little brighter, including our mood.
Spring is nature’s reset button. Trees begin to blossom; flowers start appearing and everything around us feels renewed. It’s also the perfect time to give your skin care routine a little spring clean so your skin can feel just as fresh and radiant.
Seasonal changes affect your skin more than you might think. As the weather shifts from cold to milder temperatures, your skin’s needs can change too. Just like you pack away your winter coat, hat and scarf, it might be time to rethink a few of your winter skincare products.
Here are some of the most common skincare questions I hear from clients around Marylebone during spring.
Do I need to change my face cleanser?
If your skin is starting to feel congested or you are noticing more breakouts than usual, it may be time to switch to a cleanser that is a little more refining or balancing.
Sometimes your skin simply needs a deeper cleanse after months of heavier winter products. Supporting your skin internally can help too, supplements such as Viridian ‘Clear Skin Complex’ and Zinc are often used to support clearer, healthier skin.

Should I exfoliate more in spring?
Many of us become a little relaxed about exfoliating during winter while we rely on thicker moisturisers to combat dry skin.
Spring is the ideal time to start exfoliating again. Removing dull, dead skin cells can instantly brighten the complexion and help reveal fresher, more radiant skin underneath. Think of it as a spring clean for your face.

Do I need to change my moisturiser?
Yes, in many cases.
During winter we tend to rely on heavier creams to combat dry air and cold temperatures. In spring, your skin may benefit from something lighter.
A lighter moisturiser can still keep your skin hydrated while helping to prevent congestion and blocked pores. If you are unsure what suits your skin best, speaking to a professional aesthetician can make all the difference.
Should I use a serum instead of a moisturiser?
Serums and moisturisers actually work best together rather than replacing each other.
Serums are highly concentrated active formulas designed to target specific concerns such as dehydration, pigmentation or dullness. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid help rehydrate the skin, while vitamin C supports repair and rejuvenation, along with even skin tone.
After applying your serum, always follow with a moisturiser to lock in the active ingredients and protect your skin barrier.
Do I really need SPF in spring?
Absolutely.
SPF is essential all year round to protect the skin from UV exposure. This includes HEV light from digital devices, which we are exposed to daily.
From around March onwards it is wise to increase your SPF protection, as we naturally spend more time outdoors. During prolonged sun exposure, remember to reapply every two hours.
For clients prone to pigmentation, I often recommend high protection products such as Mesoestetic SPF 130, which are designed to help reduce and prevent uneven pigmentation.

My skin becomes sensitive in spring due to hay fever. What can help?
Spring pollen can trigger irritation, redness and sensitivity for many people.
Using calming skincare products with antioxidant ingredients can help defend the skin against environmental stressors. Supporting your body internally may also help reduce symptoms. Supplements like Viridian Quercetin B5 Plus Complex and Viridian Organic Black Seed Oil are popular choices during allergy season.

Should I replace my make-up brushes in spring?
You don’t necessarily need to replace them in spring, but you should clean them regularly. Washing your brushes prevents bacteria build-up and helps keep your skin clear and healthy.
Is spring a good time to have a facial?
Spring is actually a great time of year to start professional skin treatments.
After months of winter weather, many people notice their skin feels dull, dehydrated or congested. A professional facial can help reset the skin with deep cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and targeted treatment.
